Find the intersection between your skills, market demands, and interests and discover how your talents in the arts or sciences can shape your future at Intersections, a dynamic speed networking event connecting university students/graduates with industry professionals.
Engage in fast-paced, group conversations where you'll learn about careers in your field of interest, the skills employers value most, and most of all, build your network quicker to increase your likelihood of finding employment in your preferred industry.
All students and graduates are welcome to attend this event on campus to network, learn about careers in the industry and pitch their skills and experiences to industry professionals from various companies that hire for Arts & Science backgrounds. During the event, groups of students and grads are matched up with participating industry professionals at tables. The industry professionals will move to another table approximately every 7 minutes until everyone has been acquainted. A sheet of questions for students to ask employers (if needed) will be provided on the tables so there is never a "lull" in conversations. Networking events provide an opportunity to meet new people, make connections, and build relationships that can lead to job opportunities!

Employers/ Industry Professionals Attending:
Jessica Ivany, Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and Naturotherapist Bachelor of Arts/ Major in Psychology Masters in Counselling Psychology
Jessica Ivany is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and naturotherapist (n.d.). Jessica completed a Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology from MUN and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. After graduating from her master's program, Jessica received her certification for her CCC from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and her membership of Naturotherapist from the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists of Canada. These designations have allowed Jessica to practice counselling in Newfoundland and Labrador. Jessica works in private practice (PP) in St. John's, where clients find Jessica through marketing and networking. Along with her work in PP, Jessica works with Employee Assistance Program companies Homewood Health and Greenshield Health (formerly Inkblot Therapy).
Andrew Peach, Regional Geotechnical Lead, Atlantic Canada B.Sc in Earth Sciences and Biology Master of Engineering in Geotechnics Andrew is the Regional Geotechnical Leader for Hatch Ltd. in Atlantic Canada and has been providing engineering, geological, and environmental consulting services for hydroelectric, transportation, ports and terminals, and mining developments throughout Canada and internationally for over twenty-three (23) years. Andrew is a Professional Geoscientist, a nationally certified Environmental Professional, and is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control. Andrew holds a B.Sc. Degree in Earth Sciences and Biology from Memorial University and a Master of Engineering Degree in Geotechnics from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Hatch recruits students/graduates in a variety of disciplines including (but not limited to): Chemical & process Civil & structural Construction management Electrical Environmental (engineering and science) Mechanical Mechatronics Mining Project management Systems Business programs including human resources, marketing, information technology, finance, and legal
Education Backgrounds:
The "required" education backgrounds are extremely varied. Education backgrounds related to STEM are highly sought after. Hatch is a large international and multidisciplinary consulting firm. The range of services Hatch offers is very broad- so other educational backgrounds could suffice.

Tips for Attending Speed Networking Events:
Research some information about companies attending
Prepare your elevator pitch (PAWS):
P- introducing yourself- who you are and what careers you are interested in
A- your educational background (or what you plan to study)
W- work and/or volunteer experiences you may have
S- skills you've acquired from all of the above that fit the industry of your interest
Dress appropriately (Business casual- less formal than business wear but still professional. It's not a suit, but not jeans and a t-shirt / hoodie either).
Prepare a couple of questions- however there will be questions provided on the tables so don't stress it if you can't think of any or forget :)
Follow up! Ask for the contact information of employers and follow up via LinkedIn or email
